Gymnema Sylvestre - The Sugar Killer

Gymnema Sylvestre - The Sugar Killer

You can find the summary of the researches and studies made on the plant here.

The herb

The plant itself is a climbing shrub native to the forests of India, Africa, and Australia. It is used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine. The Hindi name of the plant Gurmar means "sugar killer" or "sugar destroyer". It got this nickname due to its effect of making you unable to taste sweetness for up to two hours after you chew on the leaves of the plant. (You can try this out yourself by making some tea from the leaves, then eating one grape, which will taste sweet, then you drink the tea and try to eat another grape. It will taste like lemon.)

The active agent

This is achieved by the fact that the active agent in the plant blocks the receptors in your taste buds and intestines making it harder for your body to absorb sugar. This effect is one of the reasons why it helps you lose weight.

The weightloss effect

Normally your body needs to use a certain amount of calories to make the absorption job done, but since your receptors are blocked it will be harder to do the same task. Your body will have to use more energy, which basically means it will only be able to use 2/3 of the sugar you consumed.

Stops sugar craving

Another effect that comes from the fact that it blocks your receptors is that the food you consume won't spike your blood sugar level since it can't be digested as fast as your body would normally do, which will stop your body from craving for sugar since it already has sugar it's just slowly digested. This also helps you use up the sugar instead of making a fat cell out of it.

Anti-diabetic properties

This herb got its reputation due to the fact it has anti-diabetic properties. It helped in countless cases on people who suffer from type 2 diabetes to lower their blood sugar levels. Some people stated that with the help of Gurmar, a few other herbs and a proper diet they achieved a state where they could stop taking their originals medicines. (Since there is not enough scientific proof for that you should consult with your doctor before you start to use this herb, especially since it really does have a proven blood sugar level decreasing effect it can cause issues if you take it with medicines that have a similar effect.)

Other effects

This herb is truly miraculous, even to this point, but it still has two more helpful effects, which is good if you know.
The first one is that it lowers LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which means it reduces the risk of heart disease.
The second one is that it reduces inflammation due to its Tannin and Saponin content.

This plant is truly great I'm taking it regularly due to the fact that I have a bad heart and it keeps my blood sugar and cholesterol levels in check I can only recommend it. (I take one pill half an hour in advance every meal I have.)
Best results of this medicine will come after 6 to 12 months of continuous use. In pill form, you should take two pills half an hour before every meal.
